Behind the scenes of our latest window…
Teddy Bear’s Picnic featuring Wild Animals!
Our latest handmade window display has officially launched, and the Teddy Bear’s and Wild Animal’s Picnic has gone down a treat! There are so many elements that went into this window that I thought I’d give you a tour and share some behind the scenes moments from our wool shop.
As you know, here at Babes in the Wool we love an opportunity to be creative and put together a handmade display in our shop window. A picnic seemed like a great theme for the summer, and we’re really happy with how this one turned out!
As well as the classic cuddly teddy bears (made with a King Cole Truffle yarn), we decided to add a twist and invite a few wild animals to the picnic. The sloth pattern is from King Cole and is knitted in Tinsel Chunky eyelash yarn. He’s been a favourite from this window so far, so we’ve decided to release a complete sloth knitting kit. It’ll be available from this week, along with a crochet hedgehog kit, if you’re interested in making your own!
Another handmade character who has been stealing the show in this window is Fiona the Flamingo. This is a pattern by Amanda Berry which we got from Ravelry (click here to take a look). Fiona is knitted in Hayfield Bonus DK, a classic acrylic yarn that’s perfect for making toys like this.
We also added a zebra and a monkey. Above are a couple of pictures from when they were still works in progress and when they were sat waiting to go in the window!
Both patterns are from the book ‘Knitted Animals’ by Sarah Keen.
As for this delicious spread, these patterns came from a variety places. The battenburg cake is a favourite of ours from a Jean Greenhowe pattern book which you may remember from our Alice in Wonderland window. To make the bread, we used Dotti DK yarn by James C. Brett to give it a bit of texture and a wholewheat/ seeded bread effect. Yum!
As well as the snacks, we have a snake slithering around and a couple of cute frogs here and there. If you can make it down to our Newland Avenue shop in Hull, do come and say hello.
